Newsletter - May 2025

I’d like to start today’s update by saying: Thank you. I’m honoured to have earned the trust of voters to serve another term as your Member of Parliament. To the residents of Bells Corners, Carp, Kanata and Stittsville, serving our community is the honour of my life, and I’m looking forward to getting to work.

Speech from the Throne

This week, King Charles III opened Parliament by reading the Speech from the Throne in the Senate. No public business can be conducted by the Senate or the House until after the Speech from the Throne is read. It summarizes the government’s goals for the new session.

This week’s Speech from the Throne and previous ones are available here.

Getting Back to Work – For You

Now that the House has resumed sitting, we’re hitting the ground running to deliver on a middle-class tax cut,  and to remove federal trade barriers between provinces by Canada Day.

Removing internal trade barriers and making Canada’s economy one economy – not 13 – will be a critical step to insulate our economy against President Trump’s tariffs and unlock our country’s full economic potential.

Canadians called for a serious plan for change to bring down the cost of living. Change that puts more money in the pockets of Canadians. Change that builds a more affordable Canada. Mark Carney’s new government is delivering that change. One of the first orders of business: a tax relief for nearly 22 million Canadians, saving families up to $840 a year. This tax cut will help many in our community keep more of their paycheques to spend where it matters most.

These are two key initiatives to watch as my colleagues and I hit the ground running in this new parliament to deliver on the promises we campaigned on.

Join Me for Question Period

Now that the House is back in session, visitors are welcome to watch live proceedings (including Question Period) in the House of Commons from the public galleries on a first-come first-served basis. Visit my website for details and to reserve seating.

Community Events

This time of year, there is no shortage of community events. It’s great to see the return of the Kanata Farmers’ Market, and I look forward to celebrating Canada Day at the local Canada Day in Kanata event. Registration is now open for Kanata Race Day, which is taking place on Sunday, June 8th.

I’m also very excited for Ottawa Innovation Week June 9th to 13th, a city-wide celebration of bold innovation and global impact. Check out their website to learn more and see the many events that are being organized.

In my first official duty since being re-elected, I joined semiconductor executives and ecosystem leaders at the CHIPS North Executive Conference. As we move forward as a Government under Prime Minister Mark Carney, investments in the semiconductor sector are necessary to secure our future, and to strengthen our economy.

Big congratulations to Kongsberg Geospatial on the amazing growth of their team and office in Kanata. Over the next decade, their remote and digital tower systems will be deployed to over 70 Canadian airports. Pretty amazing to see this success and growth in our community!

I had the pleasure of kicking off the Kanata Seniors Council Far West Fun Fest with a breakfast celebration. I hope everyone participating had a memorable two weeks of activities, games, social time, meals, entertainment, and - most importantly - fun and friendships!
