Securing Canada's Sovereignty

This week, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced major investments to strengthen Canada’s Armed Forces. Canada will now meet NATO’s defence spending target of 2% of GDP — and we’ll do it this year.
Our plan will improve pay and support for CAF members, including the more than 10,000 who live and work right here in Ottawa. It will also be a boost to our local economy, especially Kanata’s growing defence and tech sectors. From cyber to advanced manufacturing, the expertise in our community will play a key role in building up Canada’s defence capacity.

The plan announced this week also includes:

  • Better pay, health care, and support for CAF members and veterans

  • Major equipment upgrades — new aircraft, vehicles, and Arctic surveillance tools

  • Investments in Canadian innovation — including cyber, AI, and space defence

  • More support for recruitment and retention

  • Bolstering Canada’s defence industrial capacity

If this past year has shown us anything, it is that we can no longer rely on others to defend Canada’s sovereignty. We need to be masters of our own destiny. These investments will ensure Canada is prepared – to defend our people and our values, to secure our sovereignty, and to protect our Allies.

I’m very excited to play a role in delivering on this plan as the newly appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Secretary of State for Defence Procurement!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or feedback you’d like to share, it’s always lovely to hear from you.

Sincerely,
Jenna
