NEWS: Canada to match donations for humanitarian response in Gaza and West Bank
Canada continues to actively advocate for humanitarian pauses and the rapid, sustained and unimpeded access of essential humanitarian relief to Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the West Bank.
Today, the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development, announced that the Government of Canada will match donations made to the Humanitarian Coalition’s Gaza Humanitarian Emergency Appeal. Every donation made by individuals to the Humanitarian Coalition and its members retroactively from October 7, 2023, until November 12, 2023, will be matched, up to a maximum of $10 million.
Canada has strong procedures and oversight in place to ensure aid reaches innocent civilians and prevent it from going into the hands of Hamas.
Funds raised through the generosity of Canadians, will help deliver life-saving services to innocent civilians such as child protection, shelter, emergency food and nutrition assistance, as well as necessary water, sanitation, health and medical services.

Funding provided at the end of the donation matching period will be allocated from the $50 million in humanitarian assistance funding announced on October 21, 2023.
Once the matching period ends, the Government of Canada will transfer the matching funds to the Humanitarian Coalition. The Humanitarian Coalition will disburse the funds among its members based on criteria such as their capacity and presence in the affected region.
The Humanitarian Coalition brings together leading Canadian humanitarian organizations to offer Canadians a simple and effective way to help during international humanitarian crises. Its members are Action Against Hunger Canada, Canadian Foodgrains Bank, Canadian Lutheran World Relief, CARE Canada, Doctors of the World Canada, Humanity and Inclusion Canada, Islamic Relief Canada, Oxfam Canada, Oxfam-Québec, Plan International Canada, Save the Children Canada and World Vision Canada.
On October 25, Canada allocated an initial $10 million in funding for humanitarian assistance to address urgent needs stemming from the crisis in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Israel and neighbouring areas. The funds have been allocated as follows:
Canadian Red Cross: $2.5 million
UNICEF: $1 million
United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East: $3.5 million
World Food Programme: $2 million
World Health Organization: $1 million
