Bill C-4: Banning Conversion Therapy
True equality makes our communities and our economy stronger, and our Liberal government has always been dedicated to advancing diversity in Canada. When we empower communities, embrace diversity, and fight discrimination, our communities are stronger and more vibrant, and our economy grows. When we take action to protect rights and promote diversity, we build a Canada where everyone is safe has a fair shot at getting ahead.
Our Liberal government believes in a Canada where everyone can live as their true, authentic self in every aspect of life, and no one is discriminated against based on who they love. We’re committed to fighting discrimination in all its forms and standing up for LGBTQ2 communities by completing the ban on conversion therapy through Bill C-4.
The legislation, if passed, would make practices designed to change someone's sexual orientation or gender identity illegal.
While more than half of Conservative MPs voted against banning conversion therapy under Erin O'Toole's leadership, our Liberal government will always be there to protect the rights of Canadians, and we will take decisive action wherever discrimination exists.
Our Liberal team will continue to ensure that everyone is safe and has a shot at getting ahead regardless of their gender, who they love, where they come from, what language they speak, who they pray to, or the colour of their skin.
We will continue to fight systemic racism, sexism, and discrimination in our communities, and promote the empowerment of Black and racialized Canadians, and Indigenous peoples.
And we will stand-up for LGBTQ2 communities while completing the ban on conversion therapy.
