Doubled GST Tax Credit Rebates Arriving Today

Inflation relief is being delivered across Kanata—Carleton today.

I’m delighted to share that, through our government’s Cost of Living Relief Act, we have doubled the GST Tax Credit for 11 million Canadians for the next six months.

This relief will help Canadians make ends meet while prices are high and household budgets are strained.

What exactly does that mean for Kanata—Carleton residents?

For the single senior in my riding who makes $20,000 in net income, they will receive an additional $233.50 today—for a total GST Tax Credit of $701 this year.

For a couple parenting two children who make $35,000 in net income, their family will receive an additional $467 today—for a total GST Tax Credit of $1,401 this year.

For the single parent with one child making $30,000 in net income, they will receive an additional $386.50 today—for a total GST Tax Credit of $1,160 this year.

If you already receive the GST Tax Credit, you are automatically eligible for the double GST Tax Credit top-up. Your top-up payment will be mailed to you or deposited into your bank account if you’re signed-up for direct deposit. Use the online calculator to estimate how much you could receive today.

Inflation has been highest in food and rent – two areas where low and modest-income Canadians spend the most of their income. That’s why offsetting these rising costs with a targeted GST Tax Credit top-up for Canadians makes sense — and will have a meaningful impact for Kanata—Carleton households.

If you do not receive your payment on the scheduled day, wait 10 working days before calling 1-800-387-1193.

You can view your GST/HST payment dates and amounts in My Account or by using the MyBenefits CRA mobile app.
