Fall Checklist: Prepare your home for the upcoming winter

Fall is a beautiful season and a favourite of mine; however, with shorter days, colder weather, and the return of cold and flu season, it can also be a tough one for many. Prepping your home for the winter months is important, as is self care and checking in regularly with family, friends, and neighbours.

My team and I prepared a short Fall Checklist that might be helpful:

  1. Clean your home's eavestroughs and downspouts, especially after all the leaves have fallen.

  2. Shut off the outside faucets to prevent frost damage.

  3. Change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

  4. Change your furnace filters and get your furnace inspected, if necessary.

  5. Insulate windows and doors from drafts.

  6. Inspect your roof for missing shingles or any other damage that could cause issues during the winter months.

  7. Get your fireplace and chimney inspected.

  8. Inspect your fire extinguisher. If you don't have one yet, make it a priority to purchase one.

  9. Check your vaccines to ensure you are well protected for the approaching flu and COVID season.

  10. Stock up the pantry with your favourite comfort food.

Last but not least, happy decorating for Halloween!
