It’s been a busy and rewarding summer connecting with residents, families, and businesses across Kanata, Stittsville, Bells Corners, and Carp. As Parliament resumes in September, I’m looking forward to bringing your voices to Ottawa and building on the conversations I’ve had with so many of you about the priorities that matter most to our community.

Canada-U.S. Trade Negotiations

I understand that the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Canada-U.S. trade negotiations can be unsettling, particularly for those whose livelihoods are directly connected to trade with the United States.

I’m grateful to Prime Minister Carney and our negotiating team for their continued leadership and for standing firm in defending Canadian workers, businesses and families. Our government is working to understand and mitigate the impacts of these new tariffs, while continuing to build a stronger, more resilient Canadian economy and create new opportunities for businesses and workers here at home.

This week, I’ll be holding 15-minute one-on-one Tariff Impact Consultations with local business owners across Kanata, Stittsville, Bells Corners and Carp. These conversations are an opportunity to share your challenges, help inform the government’s response, and learn more about available federal supports and resources.

Liberal Technology Caucus

As Chair of the Liberal Technology Caucus, I was pleased to bring together parliamentary colleagues, Ministers and industry leaders for important discussions about the opportunities and challenges facing Canada’s technology sector. Over the course of the two days, we visited leading organizations and companies, heard directly from entrepreneurs and innovators, and explored Canada’s strengths in AI, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors and more.

These conversations provided valuable insights that we can bring back to Ottawa as we work together to strengthen Canada’s innovation economy, support Canadian businesses and build a more competitive and resilient technology sector.

This fall, our government will deliver Budget 2026, updating Canadians on progress made over the past year and outlining next steps to support people, workers, families, and businesses—while building a strong economy, diversifying trade, ensuring responsible fiscal management, and positioning the country for long-term prosperity. First, we want to hear from you! Budget consultations are open until September 8.

Industry Events and Visits

I enjoyed touring Dominion Dynamics and meeting with their team - a Canadian defence technology company based right here in our community. As Canada strengthens our defence capabilities, Canadian SMEs will play a critical role - not only in protecting our sovereignty, but in growing our domestic defence technology sector and creating new economic opportunities here at home.

I recently met with the Space Strategies Consulting Ltd. (SSCL) team to learn more about their work supporting Canada’s defence acquisition efforts and the innovative initiatives they are advancing. From operational research and space data to Canadian-developed technologies, SSCL is bringing valuable expertise and innovation to Canada’s defence sector. It was great to learn more about the important work being done right here in our community.

I had a wonderful time visiting our local STEM Camp and spending time with campers and staff. The camp’s incredible counsellors were hired through the Canada Summer Jobs program, which created 100,000 job opportunities for young Canadians aged 15–30 this summer - and over 200 jobs right here in our community!

I enjoyed visiting the EVIK Diagnostic Innovations Inc. team to learn more about their innovative work developing advanced diagnostic technologies. It was great to see firsthand how Canadian innovation and expertise are helping to advance health care and create new opportunities right here in our community.

Community Events and Visits

It’s been a wonderful summer of community celebrations, with so many events bringing neighbours together to celebrate community, pride, sports, culture and so much more. From the Bells Corners Summer Bash and Centre33 Pride Family Picnic to the grand opening of Kanata’s new dog park, it’s been wonderful to see our communities come together. A big thank you to the organizers, volunteers, event partners and, of course, all of our wonderful community members who continue to make these gatherings so special.

Also, mark your calendars for the return of Movie Night in the Park on Saturday, September 5, at Jim Malone Park. A big thank you to the Kanata Lakes Community Association and everyone involved in bringing this fun, family-friendly event back this summer!

I'm looking forward to the return of the Kanata Multicultural Dance, Music & Food Festival taking place September 12-13 at Tony Graham Park in Kanata. As Ottawa celebrates its 200th anniversary, this festival provides a unique opportunity to recognize and celebrate the people, cultures, and traditions that have helped shape our city into the diverse and welcoming community it is today. Back-to-School

I’d like to wish all students, educators, and parents a safe and happy return to school. And a big thank you to the Kanata Food Cupboard who just wrapped up their annual Back-to-School Program, helping send hundreds of students back to school ready to succeed!
