Newsletter - November 2025

Congratulations to the Kanata Food Cupboard on surpassing their 40th-anniversary goal at the Kanata Santa Claus Parade, collecting a record-breaking 4,100 pounds of non-perishable food and $3,946.80 in donations. What a milestone—and what an incredible community effort! A big thank you to everyone who helped make it happen.

The Kanata Santa Claus Parade always brings out the very best of our community. Families, neighbours, and volunteers coming together with endless holiday spirit — it’s truly a highlight of the season. Grateful to be part of this tradition year after year.

With the Holidays approaching quickly, a reminder that there’s still time to help the Kanata Food Cupboard bring joy to children through their Give the Gift of the Holidays campaign. Every little helps!

Budget 2025

I’m proud to share that Budget 2025 has officially passed last week — a clear plan to make Canada the strongest economy in the G7 while making life more affordable for families here at home. For Kanata, Stittsville, Bells Corners, and Carp, that means:

Putting More Money Back in Your Pocket

  • A 1% cut to the lowest personal income tax rate on the first $57,000+ of taxable income — saving a typical two-income household up to $840 per year.

  • Targeted credits, including a new Personal Support Worker (PSW) Tax Credit worth up to $1,100 annually (2026–2030).

  • Eliminating the federal carbon charge on fuel will help bring down gas prices by up to 18¢ per litre.

Building Homes and Stronger Communities

  • The new Build Canada Homes program will accelerate housing construction — cutting build times by up to 50% and reducing costs — to make homes more attainable for young families.

Supporting Families and Children

  • Continued funding for $10-a-day childcare and the National School Food Program, which provides nutritious meals to up to 400,000 students — saving families about $800 a year.

Strengthening Health Care and Support for Seniors

  • Ongoing funding for the New Horizons for Seniors Program continues to combat isolation and promote community engagement.

Protecting Vulnerable Canadians

  • The National Anti-Fraud Strategy expands enforcement against scams and online fraud.

More details are available on my blog.

Kanata Youth Council

My Kanata Youth Council held its first meeting this month, and I was truly inspired by the ideas and initiatives our leaders of tomorrow are bringing to the table.

Industry Visits and Highlights

I had the pleasure of visiting Fortinet's growing offices in Bells Corners — now home to 600 employees right here in Ottawa. Fortinet plays a critical role in keeping our networks safe, and it was inspiring to see firsthand how their team is advancing cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions that protect Canadians, businesses, and institutions every single day.

This week set the stage for something massive. With Nokia’s new Innovation Campus underway, our community becomes an even stronger engine of world-shaping technology and Canadian excellence - driving breakthroughs in AI, quantum-safe networking, advanced optics, 6G systems and beyond.

I was honoured to deliver opening remarks at Strengthening Canada’s Future: Semiconductor Talent, Innovation, and National Priorities — hosted by CMC Microsystems and the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC). This event marked an exciting step forward for Canada’s semiconductor ecosystem, with the announcement of a new national training partnership between ICTC and CMC. Together, they’ll help grow the next generation of semiconductor talent — from K-12 to post-secondary and into Canada’s most innovative companies and research labs.

Earlier this month, Mayor Sutcliffe and Invest Ottawa launched Ottawa's new Defence Innovation Hub and Strategy — a landmark step in strengthening our national security and harnessing the full power of Canadian innovation. Our region is home to world-class research institutions, leading defence and cybersecurity firms, and companies with amazing dual-use technologies. I’m excited for these organizations to seize this moment, showcase their incredible talent, and help shape the future of Canadian defence and security.

I travelled to Vancouver to meet with leading organizations—including TRIUMF, SFU 4D Labs, Microchip, and Preciseley—to advance Canada’s leadership in emerging technologies. During the CSC Western Canada Semiconductor Roundtable, government, industry, and academic partners came together to map regional strengths and strengthen Canada’s semiconductor and advanced manufacturing sectors, with additional engagements focused on collaboration across the broader innovation ecosystem.

I joined the Prime Minister on his visit to the Ottawa Civic Hospital where we met health-care providers and highlighted Budget 2025’s major investments in health infrastructure, workers, and services. With strengthened support for cutting-edge research at institutions like the University of Ottawa’s institute—advancing innovations from CAR-T therapy to pandemic preparedness—Budget 2025 is boosting Canada’s capacity, talent, and essential care facilities nationwide.

The Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council (CNIC) brings together nearly 115 members across science, healthcare, academia, and the nuclear sector to strengthen Canada’s leadership in life-saving medical isotopes—an industry projected to reach US$42 billion by 2033. At their recent council meeting, members highlighted how collaboration between industry and government can drive innovation, create high-quality jobs, and ensure Canada remains at the forefront of this critical field.

I also travelled to Toronto for the Isotopes for Hope: Canada’s 2030 Promise event, celebrating Canada’s leadership in medical isotope innovation and the launch of the next phase of the Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council’s campaign to double isotope production by 2030. With over 200 participants from across the sector, the event highlighted how collaboration, research excellence, and a strong nuclear industry are positioning Canada at the forefront of the global fight against cancer.

Community Events

On Remembrance Day, I gathered with our community at the Kanata Cenotaph to honour those who have served and defended our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication have protected the freedoms we cherish today. I also visited the Kanata Legion and the Bells Corners Legion to join members of our community to reflect on the sacrifices of those who’ve served and continue to inspire us.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Ottawa Maker’s Shed in Bells Corners — an amazing space where skill, creativity, and community come together. Their members aren’t just building projects; they’re building connection, belonging, and opportunities for others. Grateful for everything they bring to our community.

It’s been a great visit to the Christmas Markets in Bells Corners. I enjoyed seeing incredible handmade pieces from talented local creators, each with its own story behind it. The rotary calendar that I bought is a great addition to my home.

There is no shortness of events this Holiday season! Starting this afternoon and wrapping up tomorrow at 2pm is the annual Christmas Market at Carp Fair. It’s always a great opportunity to shop local and find something special for someone on your list.

Don’t miss Elf the Musical JR, a first production by Spotlight Youth Collective, a not-for-profit organization that gives young people in our community the chance to immerse themselves in every aspect of the theatre-making process — from performance to set design. Last-minute tickets are available here.

Tomorrow, I’m looking forward to attending the 872 Kiwanis Kanata Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron 19th Annual Spaghetti Dinner & Auction.

There will also be several tree lighting ceremonies this weekend. Tomorrow, the Kanata Central BIA will be holding a Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony from 5-7pm at the Centrum Plaza in front of Landmark Cinemas. Stop by for photos with Santa, music, hot chocolate, and more. There will also be a Tree Lighting Ceremony in Bells Corners this Sunday, 2-6pm with fun activities for the entire family!
