Passport Canada Service Update

My team and I have been receiving many inquiries regarding delays in constituents’ passport renewal process; hence, I would like to provide a brief Passport Canada service update.

With the easing of public health restrictions and Canadians resuming their travels, Service Canada is now experiencing a large increase in demand for passports. This has resulted in lineups and longer than normal wait times for in-person service.

I understand that this situation can be stressful, especially for constituents with imminent travel plans. Please know, Service Canada Centres across the country are working hard to ensure that anyone with travel plans receives a passport prior to their travel date.

Applying for a Passport

To avoid long lines, Canadians with no imminent travel or travel of 25 business days or more can apply by visiting any of over 300 Service Canada Centres. Canadians who require a passport within 25 business days must visit the nearest Service Canada Centre – Passport Service office for service. Proof of travel or need is required in these cases.

For Kanata—Carleton constituents, the nearest centre, the Ottawa West Service Canada Centre and Passport Services, is located at 885 Meadowlands Drive East, Suite 105.

Other nearby centres include:

Do not come to a Service Canada Centre if you:

  • Have any COVID-19 related symptoms such as fever, cough or difficulty breathing

  • Have had contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days

  • Are required to self-isolate or quarantine by public health authorities

New Simplified Passport Renewal Process

To make renewing a passport easier, our government recently introduced the expansion of the simplified renewal application process for Canadian passports.

As of March 31, 2022, Canadians in Canada and abroad can use the simplified process to renew an expired passport as long as it was issued within the last 15 years. The simplified process is also available to individuals who had their passport lost, stolen or damaged.
