Progress Update

Now that the House of Commons spring session has ended, let’s look back on the progress that we have made to support Canadians.

We passed the Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act. This will ensure a long-term federal commitment to affordable, inclusive early learning and child care. Our work with provinces, territories and Indigenous partners continues, and we will be there for families and provide children with the best possible start in life.

We introduced the First Phase of National Universal Pharmacare. This will provide free contraception to over nine million women, giving them freedom over their sexual and reproductive health, and make sure that more than three million Canadians get the diabetes medication they need.

We created an Indigenous-led National Council for Reconciliation, which will advance reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.

We banned replacement workers. This will protect the right to strike and provides more stability for federal regulated workers during labour disputes.

We launched Canada’s new Anti-Racism Strategy to protect many Canadians from discrimination and unveiled a National Action Plan Combatting Auto Theft to protect you and your vehicles.

And through Budget 2024, we made a commitment to make life cost less and ensure fairness for every generation:

  • Launched the Canada Housing Plan, which will help unlock 3.87 million net new homes by 2031.

  • Introduced the Canadian Renters' Bill of Rights to protect renters and provide new paths to homeownership.

  • Rolled out the Canadian Dental Care Plan, which has seen more than two million seniors enroll to date, and which will help

  • Created the National School Food Program, which will provide up to 400,000 more children with meals at school, so they can focus on what really matters: learning, growing, and dreaming big.

These are just a few highlights from a long list. This shows that the House of Commons is a place where we can get things done on behalf of Canadians.

We are committed to building more homes, faster, helping make life cost less, and growing the economy in a way that provides fairness for every generation.
