Newsletter - July 2025
As we enjoy the height of summer, I’ve been grateful for the opportunity to spend more time in our beautiful community, connecting with so many of you at events and get-togethers across our riding.
A sure sign that the summer holidays are sadly coming to an end in a few weeks though is the launch of the Kanata Food Cupboard’s Back-to-School Program. Let’s help send 850 local students back to school ready to succeed! The Kanata Food Cupboard is collecting new backpacks and lunch bags to ensure every child starts the year with confidence and the tools they need. Canada-US Trade Update
Last week, the Prime Minister sat down with the Premiers for an emergency meeting to discuss where things stand in our trade negotiations with the United States. They’re taking a united Team Canada approach, working together to secure the best possible deal for Canadians. What’s clear is that we’re not going to settle for a deal at any costs with the United States — it has to be a good deal for Canadians.
The Prime Minister also highlighted recent steps we’ve taken to stand up for our steel industry: cracking down on unfair steel imports, supporting Canadian steel workers, boosting domestic production, and making sure we’re using Canadian steel in federal projects.
The Prime Minister and the Premiers are focused on what we can control: moving ahead on major nation-building projects, breaking down interprovincial trade barriers, and doing the work to grow a stronger, more resilient economy here at home.
Part of that work is doing more to diversify our trade with reliable global partners. Since taking office, the Prime Minister has met with over 80 world leaders. Just last week in Ottawa, he secured a commitment from the King of Jordan to use Canadian steel to rebuild his country’s critical infrastructure. And earlier this month, Canada’s first large-scale shipment of liquified natural gas landed at a port in South Korea — a huge milestone for our natural resource sector and a big win for Canadian workers.

Tackling Youth Unemployment
I’ve heard from many young people in our community struggling to find employment this summer. As a mother of three teenage daughters entering the workforce for the first time, I understand the frustration and the current very difficult job market our young people are facing.
Through the Canada Summer Jobs Program, our new government is helping local organizations create much needed summer jobs in our community. This year, through two waves of funding, 113 organizations in our riding received $1,375, 256 to create up to 321 local summer jobs. These jobs give youth a vital first step into the workforce — helping them gain experience, explore career paths, and build skills that make them more employable. Nationally, up to 76,000 summer jobs have been created nationally because of this program!
The federal government also creates opportunities for students through the Student Work Placement Program which helps post-secondary students develop job-ready skills through work-integrated learning. These placements range from co-ops and internships to newer formats like hackathons, micro-internships, and bootcamps. This year, over 40,000 students are gaining job experience through this program. The program also helps employers find future talent while giving students a meaningful connection between academic learning and the workforce.

Community Events
It was such a great day celebrating our beautiful country at Canada Day in Kanata, including a special Citizenship Ceremony for new Canadians. A big thank you to the organizers, supporters, volunteers and everyone else involved in making this event happen!
It was a fun evening at Lynwood Park in Bells Corners where the Lynwood Village Community Association organized the Company of Fools Theatre production of The Company of Errors.
I also enjoyed the Park Chat that Kanata North Councillor Cathy Curry hosted. Connecting with members of our community face-to-face and hearing your questions and ideas - this makes all the difference!
It’s always a good day when I get to tour a local tech company! Solink did not disappoint. Solving real world problems with AI, making businesses more efficient and safer. Last time I visited them, they had 20 employees, now 400!
I also had the pleasure of visiting Telesat to see firsthand the incredible work they’re doing right here in Ottawa on low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. From enabling high-speed internet access in rural and remote communities to strengthening Canada’s digital infrastructure and global competitiveness, their LEO satellite constellation is a powerful example of Canadian innovation at its best. Thank you to the Telesat team for the warm welcome and for your leadership in advancing space-based connectivity.
Thank you to Carpenters Union Local 93 for hosting myself and Minister of Jobs, Patty Hajdu. More importantly, thank you for the work you do training apprentices and building amazing careers in the skilled trades.
I was honoured to join Cisco Canada for the launch of their Canada Secure Technical Services - a new sovereign capability right here in Canada that reinforces their commitment to protecting sensitive data and supporting organizations as we navigate an increasingly complex cyber environment. This investment delivers a Canadian-based solution to digital security, strengthens our national resilience, and supports high-skilled jobs in our community. Thank you to the Cisco team for continuing to invest in Canadian innovation and digital sovereignty.
Thank you to Khalsa Aid for all that you do. It’s been a pleasure stopping by your event at the Irish Hills Golf and Country Club in Carp to learn more about your disaster relief efforts.
I'm looking forward to the Second Annual Carp Book Fair that St. Paul’s United Church is holding August 14 -23, 2025. The proceeds will be supporting the work of St. Paul’s United Church and its charities. To learn more, visit stpauls-dunrobin.ca/carpbookfair.
