Newsletter - August 2025

It’s been a busy and rewarding summer connecting with residents and businesses across Kanata, Stittsville, Bells Corners, and Carp. With Parliament back in session in September, I’m looking forward to being your voice and building on the conversations I’ve had with many of you about your priorities as our government gets to work this fall.

Building Canada Strong

As Canada navigates changing trade rules, our government is working to strengthen our economy and protect jobs right here at home. We’re supporting local businesses, creating well-paying jobs, and ensuring Canadians remain their own best customers.

We are standing behind Canada’s softwood lumber industry by investing in workers, promoting Canadian lumber in construction, and opening new trade opportunities to keep jobs strong. Our Armed Forces will receive a pay raise of up to 20% and new benefits, because their pay should reflect the weight of their responsibilities. These measures recognize their dedication and ensure they are ready to protect Canada and its allies. At the same time, over 4,000 athletes will come together for the Canada Games 2025 in St. John’s, celebrating teamwork, talent, and national pride.

Thank you to everyone who shared their ideas and priorities during the Budget 2025 consultations. Budget 2025 will be tabled this fall, and your input will help guide government decisions to shape a stronger, more prosperous Canada. Together, we are creating jobs, supporting communities, and building Canada Strong.

Caucus Retreat

In a few weeks, I’ll be heading to Edmonton for a four-day Liberal Caucus Retreat, a long-standing tradition on Parliament Hill. While the name might suggest a quiet getaway, it’s anything but—our days are filled with meetings, roundtables, and lively discussions. Most importantly, it’s a chance to bring the voices of our community to the table. I’ll be raising the issues I hear most from you: cost of living and housing relief, protecting Canada’s sovereignty, and growing our local high-tech economy.

Do you have a priority you’d like me to share at the retreat? I’d love to hear from you—please email me at Jenna.Sudds@parl.gc.ca.

Hate-Motivated Assault in Kanata

I welcomed news of an arrest after the hate-motivated assault on a young Muslim woman in Kanata. This unacceptable act of hate has no place in our community. I strongly condemn this violence and hatred. We must stand united against Islamophobia.

Thanks to the Ottawa Police for the swift action. Collective effort and public awareness are essential to confront hate and keep our community safe.

Bromont Visit

This month, I had the opportunity to spend some time in Bromont Quebec with my Liberal Technology Caucus colleagues, diving deep into Canada’s innovation ecosystem and the incredible work happening in Québec.

From advanced semiconductor packaging to next-generation manufacturing, Bromont plays a critical role in our national technology supply chains. The talent, ingenuity, and collaboration I saw are proof that Canada has what it takes to compete — and lead — on the global stage.

A big thank you to our hosts for sharing their time, insights, and vision for the future. It’s inspiring to see how industry, researchers, and government are working together to drive growth, create good jobs, and strengthen Canada’s position in the global technology economy.

Shared Services Canada Visit

I had the pleasure of spending time with Scott Jones, President of Shared Services Canada, for a tour of their impressive facilities. It was inspiring to see firsthand the progress they are making in modernizing our government operations — from upgrading infrastructure to implementing innovative processes that strengthen and protect Canada’s most sensitive data.

These advancements are not just about technology; they are about building resilient, secure, and future-ready systems that will serve Canadians for years to come. They also reinforce Canada’s digital sovereignty — ensuring that our data, systems, and capabilities remain secure, reliable, and under Canadian control.

Thank you to Scott and the entire Enterprise Data Centres team for your ongoing commitment to excellence in Canada’s digital infrastructure.

Other Industry Visits and Highlights

This past month, I had the opportunity to join the Honourable Stephen Fuhr and key leaders from Ottawa’s defence sector for a thoughtful roundtable hosted by the Ottawa Board of Trade. It was a valuable discussion on the future of Canada’s defence procurement — and how we can modernize systems, support Canadian industry, and ensure our investments strengthen both national security and economic resilience.

I was pleased to join the grand opening of Jabil Canada’s new advanced packaging facility—a critical investment that further secures a piece of Canada’s semiconductor supply chain, right here in Kanata.

I also had the opportunity to visit Infineon Technologies office in Kanata — a key player in Ottawa’s growing semiconductor ecosystem. Infineon’s innovations in clean tech, automotive applications, secure digital identities, and IoT connectivity reflect the incredible potential of our region. Their work is a reminder that Ottawa is not only Canada’s largest tech park, but also a critical hub for semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing.

It was a pleasure to visit the Ford Connectivity and Innovation Center in Kanata—a thriving hub of innovation now home to over 900 engineers, developers, and specialists working on connectivity, infotainment, and autonomous driving technologies. Ford originally came to Kanata when they acquired a business unit from QNX and stayed here because of the incredible local talent—and that bet has clearly paid off!

I paid a visit to the team at ADGA Group in their new beautiful office in Bells Corners. ADGA plays a critical role in supporting Canada’s national defence, cybersecurity, and public safety — providing innovative, mission-critical solutions that help keep Canadians safe. Thank you for the warm welcome and for the important work you do every day!

Community Events

Love is love! It’s been a joy attending the 4th annual Pride Flag Raising Ceremony in Stittsville and Centre33’s annual Pride Family Picnic. While this year’s Capital Pride parade didn’t go ahead, it was wonderful to see so many in our city out in support and celebration of the 2SLGBTQI+ community. Our government has always, and will always, stand with the 2SLGBTQI+ community – as we continue to fight for equity and inclusion, together.

What a great turnout for the 28th annual Scott Tokessy Memorial Baseball Tournament - the largest volunteer-organized charity tournament in Canada with 74 teams participating with all proceeds going to CHEO.

I was thrilled to join the sod turning for a brand new childcare centre, creating 78 new licensed childcare spaces for local families in Mississippi Mills - a project made possible thanks to investments from all three levels of government. Together, we’re helping more parents access the affordable, high-quality childcare they need.

I had a great time visiting our local STEM Camp and meeting the camp councillors who take care of our kids during the summer. I’m proud these jobs were created through our Canada Summer Jobs program, which is employing over 70,000 youth across Canada this year - of which 321 are from Kanata, Stittsville, Bells Corners, and Carp.

I'm looking forward to the return of the Kanata Multicultural Dance, Music & Food Festival on September 7 at Walter Baker Park. Let’s unite through dance, music, and a shared love for our vibrant community!

Back-to-School

I’d like to wish all students, educators, and parents a safe and happy return to school. And a big thank you to the Kanata Food Cupboard who just wrapped up their annual Back-to-School Program, helping send over 850 students back to school ready to succeed!

Happy Carp Fair!

September means not only back-to-school, but also the return of the “Best Little Fair in Canada”! I’m excited for a weekend filled with family fun, great music, and incredible shows. Check out carpfair.ca to plan your visit ahead of time.
