Update from the House of Commons
It’s been a fast and furious four weeks in Parliament, making great progress to deliver on the promises you elected us to deliver.
We passed Bill C-5, removing interprovincial trade barriers and cutting red tape to get nation-building projects moving faster.
We’re putting money back in your pocket with a middle class tax cut that will save the average family up to $840 a year.
We’ve cut the GST for first-time home buyers on homes under $1 million — that’s up to $50,000 in savings on a first new home.
We’ve increased defence spending to secure Canada’s sovereignty and support high tech jobs here in our community.
And we launched the Canada Strong Pass. Until September 2, 2025, this new initiative will make it easier for everyone to enjoy the beauty and history of our country. See more on this below.
This is a critical moment, and we’re delivering on important projects for this country that once felt out of reach, at a pace we haven’t seen in a generation.
Canada Strong Pass
The new Canada Strong Pass is such a great step toward making Canada’s natural wonders and cultural gems more accessible. No registration is required. Visitors simply show up at participating establishments to enjoy and discover Canada’s natural, cultural, and historical treasures. Enjoy:
Free admission to national parks, national historic sites, and marine conservation areas.
25% off camping fees in national parks.
Free museum entry for kids 17 and under, and 50% off for youth 18–24.
Free VIA Rail travel for kids with an adult, and 25% off for youth 18-24 no matter who you travel with.
Let’s all have the most Canadian summer! To learn more, visit Canada.ca/CanadaStrongPass.
Canada Day in Kanata
Parliament’s officially out for the summer, and I’m looking forward to spending time in our beautiful community - working hard and enjoying everything Kanata, Bells Corners, Carp, and Stittsville have to offer. First up is one of my favourite events, celebrating our beautiful country!
Get your red and white on and join me to celebrate Canada Day at Walter Baker Park at Canada Day in Kanata! A big thank you to all sponsors, volunteers, and contributors to make this event happen again. To learn more, be sure to visit CanadaDayInKanata.com.
Canada Disability Benefit
As of June 20, Canadians can apply for the new Canada Disability Benefit (CDB). Persons with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 64 can apply for the benefit if they have qualified for the disability tax credit (DTC) and meet the benefit’s other eligibility requirements, including having filed their 2024 income tax return with the Canada Revenue Agency. The CDB is a critical step forward in our government’s work to improve financial security for working age persons with disabilities. Learn more here.
Community Events
Happy Pride Season! It was a pleasure to join MPP Karen McCrimmon and Councillors Glen Gower and Cathy Curry at Centre33 here in Kanata to raise the pride flag on June 1st to mark the beginning of Pride Season.
I thoroughly enjoyed attending the Annual Jami Omar BBQ and Bazar, and would like to thank the organizers, vendors, and the lovely community for having me.
Earlier this month, I celebrated Eid al-Adha alongside Prime Minister Carney, Amira Elghawaby, and Ottawa’s Muslim community.
It was great to be at uOttawa’s Kanata North Campus to celebrate their new and expanded space. It’s exciting to see the hands-on learning as they develop the next generation of tech talent!
Thank you to the Lotus Centre for inviting me to attend your Year-End Concert. In case you don’t know, the Lotus Centre for Special Music Education, located at the Beaverbrook Centre at 1002 Beaverbrook Road, is internationally recognized as a leader in increasing access to adapted music education. For more details on their courses, check out their website here.
At Kanata Race Day, I managed to pull off a 5k Personal Best this year! A huge thank you to everyone who came out to support this incredible community event in support of the Richcraft Recreation Complex, and a heartfelt thank you to the volunteers, the Kanata Race Day board, and Kanata North Councillor Cathy Curry & team for your work bringing this event to life. This is what community is all about!
A big thank you to the Bridlewood Community Association and all volunteers and neighbours for a fun Bridlewood Block Party! It was the perfect day for ice-cream, not to mention all the other yummy treats and fun activities!
I also very much enjoyed attending the Mosaic Harmony Festival - a wonderful blend of delicious food, fun, and music. Thank you to everyone involved in making this happen!
Congratulations to the Kanata Muslim Association on a successful and fun Second Annual Kids Bazaar. I was amazed seeing the enthusiasm and level of innovation in these entrepreneurial kids. Well done everyone!
