Newsletter - September 2025

As the leaves begin to change, it’s a clear sign that Thanksgiving is around the corner, and with it, the launch of the Kanata Food Cupboard’s annual Thanksgiving Hamper Program. The deadline to register is Sunday, October 5, 2025.

The Kanata Food Cupboard is also gearing up for a major fundraising event, Kanata Bites & Delights, to raise awareness and funds to fight food insecurity in our community. Details and event tickets are available here.

Bringing Your Priorities Back to Parliament

It’s been a very productive week of caucus meetings in Edmonton. The conversations my Liberal colleagues and I had were focused on building a stronger economy, creating good jobs, and making life more affordable — priorities I hear about every day from families, workers, and businesses in Kanata, Bells Corners, Stittsville, and Carp.

Thank you to everyone who reached out to share your priorities with me ahead of the retreat. With the House now back in session, I’m ready to bring your voices to Parliament and keep working to ensure Canadians — and our community — thrive as we work to build the strongest economy in the G7.

Join me for Question Period

Now that the House is back in session, visitors are welcome to watch live proceedings (including Question Period) in the House of Commons from the public galleries on a first-come first-served basis. Visit my website for details and to reserve seating.

Canada’s Recognition of the State of Palestine

September 21st marked a historic step as Canada officially recognizes the State of Palestine. For years, I have been a strong advocate in recognizing Palestinian statehood and Canada’s constructive work to advance peace and justice in the region —efforts I am pleased to see continue through the recognition of a two-state solution. By taking this step, Canada advances a future rooted in peace, dignity, and prosperity for all, while reaffirming that lasting security depends on a two-state solution.

Build Canada Homes

I was happy to join Prime Minister Mark Carney, Housing Minister Gregor Robertson, and local leaders as they announced Build Canada Homes, a new federal agency that will build affordable housing at scale to help tackle the housing crisis. This is about giving more Canadians a safe, affordable place to call home, and I’m happy to see Ottawa being among the first cities that’ll benefit.

Major Projects Office

I’m excited to share that the Major Projects Office (MPO) is helping to strengthen our economy by supporting new investments, creating good jobs, and building stronger, more resilient communities for families across Canada.

The MPO was created to help identify projects that are in Canada’s national interest and will help fast-track their development. That way, our government is delivering quickly and effectively on projects that have long-term benefits for all Canadians, and building major infrastructure that will connect and transform our nation’s economy.

On September 11, the Prime Minister announced the first projects to be reviewed by the MPO. I’ve shared details on my website.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Please join me tomorrow to reflect and honour Survivors, their families and communities affected by the legacy of Indian Residential Schools. A ceremony will once again be held at the Diefenbunker. Details are available at diefenbunker.ca/events.

Kanata Golf and Country Club

I’m very disappointed that the City of Ottawa’s application for leave to appeal regarding ClubLink’s plan to disregard the 40% Agreement and develop the Kanata Lakes Golf Club lands has been dismissed.  But please know, I remain committed to supporting the City and our community as we continue this fight together.

Industry Visits and Highlights

It was a pleasure to host Secretary of State Wayne Long in Kanata’s tech park for a pre-budget roundtable on photonics and semiconductors. Canada is already a global powerhouse in these fields. Strengthening and securing our sovereign supply chains will be key to driving innovation, creating good jobs, and ensuring our long-term competitiveness.

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of visiting Ciena’s largest R&D centre, located right here in Kanata. Ciena is a global leader in optical networking and connectivity solutions — and the innovation happening here in Kanata is helping to shape the future of how we connect.

I also got to visit Nokia and meet with Jeffrey Maddox and Andy Thompson. With plans to build a new world-class, sustainable campus in Kanata, Nokia is not only strengthening its role in global connectivity but also creating new opportunities for workers and families in our community.

It was a pleasure spending time with Craig McLellan, CEO of ThinkOn - a proudly Canadian company at the forefront of cloud solutions and secure data management. Their commitment to data sovereignty ensures organizations, including the Federal government, can access innovative technology while keeping sensitive information safe here at home.

Community Events

I’m grateful to have joined Her Seat at the Table: Towards Economic Emancipation for Black Girls & Women at Invest Ottawa - an inspiring conversation on breaking barriers, building opportunity, and advancing equity. Thank you to Future Black Female and all organizers and partners for leading this important work.

I was proud to join our community in Kanata for the annual Terry Fox Run. It was so inspiring to see families, friends, and neighbours walking and running side by side -  a true reminder of the strength of community when we unite for a cause bigger than ourselves.

Another highlight this past month was taking part in the Canada Army Run, an incredible event that brings Canadians and the Canadian Armed Forces together in a true spirit of camaraderie and community.

The “Best Little Fair in Canada” never disappoints! Thank you to everyone who stopped by my tent at the Carp Fair. It was wonderful catching up with familiar faces and meeting new community members. A big thanks as well to the organizers, partners, and volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this event such a success.

Congratulations to the Kanata Lakes Community Association and all volunteers on a successful second Movie Night in the Park event! It’s such a fun way to bring our community together!

I had a wonderful time at the Kanata Multicultural Festival. A lively celebration of culture, art, food, and community spirit. Many thanks to the organizers and everyone involved in making it happen.
