Go #TeamCanada!
As the 2022 Olympic Winter Games are officially underway now, I’d like to invite you all to join me in cheering on #TeamCanada. Our athletes have worked incredibly hard to get to this point. Let’s celebrate these achievements as well as sport in general.
Did you know? Four of Team Canada’s delegation are athletes from Kanata—Carleton. Jamie Lee Rattray from Kanata is competing in Women’s Hockey, Hannah Schmidt from Dunrobin is competing in Ski Cross, Jared Schmidt from Dunrobin—Hannah’s brother—is also competing in Ski Cross, and Mason McTavish from Carp is competing in Men’s Hockey. All four athletes will make their Olympic Games debut in Beijing.
18-year-old Mason McTavish was drafted third overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2021 NHL entry draft. He scored two goals and added an assist in nine NHL games before returning to the Ontario Hockey League for the remainder of the season.
Jamie Lee Rattray started playing hockey at age 4. Her first international appearance with the National Women's Team was the 2014 Four Nations Cup. She scored four goals during the 2021 World Championships to help Canada win its first world title since 2012.
Hannah Schmidt joined the national ski cross team in 2018, and recorded her first top-ten finish in December by winning the small final.
Jared Schmidt began competing internationally in ski cross in 2017, which included an appearance at the FIS Junior World Championship. During the 2020-21 season, he won his first World Cup medal, taking bronze in Georgia.
I can’t wait to cheer on our very own!
