Bringing high-speed internet to homes in West Carleton

Just a few moments ago in Dunrobin, I announced that West Carleton residents are going to receive major upgrades to their internet connectivity.

Residents in Carp, Constance Bay, Dunrobin, Fitzroy Harbour, and Kinburn will be able to connect to reliable high-speed internet, thanks to a new federal-provincial joint investment of $13M.

Over the months ahead, Bell Canada will be employing fibre to bring reliable internet to over 6,400 homes in West Carleton.

This project will also extend to the communities of Arnprior, Braeside, Burnstown, Glasgow Station, Marathon Village, and White Lake.

At today's announcement, I spoke with representatives from Bell Canada who shared some of the challenges they've faced in delivering high-speed internet to rural communities.

Local topography, dense tree coverage, and rock formations have hindered progress on bringing broadband internet to rural West Carleton.

It's no easy task, but with this new investment of federal and provincial funding, reliable broadband internet is on its way.

The entire project is estimated to be completed by the end of 2025.

At today's announcement, I was joined by Hon. Merrilee Fullerton, Member of Provincial Parliament for Kanata—Carleton, as well as Clarke Kelly, City Councillor for West Carleton—March Ward, who shared his first-hand experiences with spotty internet connectivity at his rural home.

And while we're on the topic of internet connectivity, let's not forget about the importance of affordability.

Work is underway to lower the cost of connectivity for all Canadians, from cell phone plans to internet bills. Public consultations are ongoing — share your input!
