Newsletter - July 2026
How come time always passes by more quickly during the summer months? I love this time of year because it offers so many opportunities to connect with residents across Kanata, Bells Corners, Stittsville, and Carp.
As summer races by, many families are already starting to think about back-to-school shopping. For some, however, the cost of school supplies can be a real challenge. That's why I encourage those who are able to support the Kanata Food Cupboard's Back to School Program. Over the past five years, the program has helped more than 4,000 local students head back to school with the supplies they need to learn and succeed. Whether you donate school supplies, shop their wish list, or make a financial contribution, every gift helps set a local student up for success and strengthens our community.
Canada Day Storm
I have spoken to many who have been directly impacted by the Canada Day storm, including myself as my basement flooded as well. The intensity of the rainfall and flooding left a lasting impact across our region, with hundreds experiencing damage and extended power outages.
I want to sincerely thank the teams at the City of Ottawa, Hydro Ottawa, Hydro One, along with first responders and all those who worked quickly and tirelessly to support residents in need. Moments like these remind us of something deeply important—how fortunate we are to live in a community where neighbours look out for one another, check in on each other, and step up to help during difficult times.
Supporting Communities Affected by Ontario Wildfires
Our thoughts are with the communities across northern Ontario affected by the ongoing wildfires, particularly those who have been forced to evacuate their homes. Thousands of residents have been displaced as fires continue to threaten remote and First Nations communities.
The federal government continues to work with Ontario, Indigenous leaders and emergency-management partners to support evacuation and response efforts. Residents are encouraged to follow guidance from local authorities, monitor air-quality advisories and consult official government resources for current wildfire and emergency information.
We are grateful to the firefighters, emergency personnel, community leaders and host communities working tirelessly to keep people safe and support those who have been displaced.
Congratulations!
The FIFA World Cup may be over, but you inspired Canadians from coast to coast. Congratulations to Canada's Men's National Soccer Team on our best-ever World Cup run. Thank you to the players, coaches, and supporters for making our country proud and showing the world what Canadian soccer is capable of.
Have Your Say on Budget 2026!
This fall, our government will deliver Budget 2026, updating Canadians on progress made over the past year and outlining next steps to support people, workers, families, and businesses—while building a strong economy, diversifying trade, ensuring responsible fiscal management, and positioning the country for long-term prosperity. First, we want to hear from you! Budget 2026 consultations are now open.
Canadian Patrol Submarine Project
July 6 marked a monumental step forward as our government selected TKMS to begin negotiations for up to 12 new submarines—marking the largest defence procurement in Canadian history.
True security also means investing in our people. This historic partnership is expected to create over 100,000 good-paying jobs and integrate Canadian workers into global supply chains. We are securing a safer future and a stronger, fairer economy right here at home for decades to come.
Canada Strong Pass
With summer in full force, I’d like to share a reminder about the Canada Strong Pass. Until September 7, 2026, enjoy free admission to Parks Canada sites, 25% off overnight stays and camping, free lockage on historic waterways, and significant VIA Rail travel perks. Check out the official website for all details.
Community Events and Visits
It was a privilege connecting with residents and joining local Canada Day celebrations at the Canada Day race, Walter Baker Park Celebration, the Kanata Legion BBQ, and a wonderful visit with residents at Tweedsmuir on the Park. Huge thanks to the volunteers and organizers who worked tirelessly in making these events a success!
It was an incredible honour to host 50 of our community’s newest Canadians at Walter Baker Park on Canada Day! It was a wonderful opportunity to recognize constituents who had recently taken their citizenship oath and celebrate this important milestone alongside their families and community. Moments like these remind us how fortunate we are to live in a country that continuously strives to be better, fairer, and more inclusive for everyone.
Mark your calendars for this year’s Kanata Multicultural Dance, Music & Food Festival taking place September 12-13 at Tony Graham Park in Kanata. As Ottawa celebrates its 200th anniversary, this festival provides a unique opportunity to recognize and celebrate the people, cultures, and traditions that have helped shape our city into the diverse and welcoming community it is today.
